NOTAM: Daniel 10:12-13 “12 Then he said to me, “Do not fear, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart to understand, and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard; and I have come because of your words. 13 But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me twenty-one days; and behold, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, for I had been left alone there with the kings of Persia..”
Part two of the God Goggles. Today I’m going to deviate a bit from flying to driving.
About a week ago during my lunch break, I took my wife to our local mall to pickup a couple of items. The week was snowy with temperatures in the negative numbers, and we had just experienced freezing rain that morning. Roads conditions were very slick, so we decided to take my four wheel drive truck to better cope with the conditions. After taking the exit toward the mall I passed a semi truck with a trailer full of wooden pallets which was in the outer lane. I proceeded to pull up to the stop light and was the fifth vehicle in my lane, the rightmost left turn lane, which was one of the three lanes comprising the exit. Two of the lanes were left turn lanes. The third, a right turn lane. The freezing rain had left my windshield wipers with blocks of ice on them so I could not see well out of the drivers window. I unbuckled my belt to reach out my side window and flip the wipers to break off the ice. My wife asked me why I was getting out of my seat belt with a somewhat concerned voice. I replied, “I can’t see to drive so I’m flipping off the ice from the wiper”. At that exact moment my wife blurted out my name in an urgent tone. That was it, just my name. I somehow knew to look into my rear view mirror where I saw the semi that we had just past jackknifed behind me with the trailer taking up most of the right turn lane and ours sliding toward the back of my truck. There was no way this trailer was going to straighten out. It was clearly past the point of no return. Without any hesitation I cranked the wheel and jumped over one lane to my left where there was an open space. The trailer slid through my previous spot, straighten out, and missed the car that was previously in front of us. It was as if nothing had ever happened and everyone went on their way.
So what really happened? This is where we could imagine wearing our God Goggles. First let’s break down the circumstances of the situation.
- The left lane that was open is never open. I’ve pulled into these lanes for years and it is always backed up in both lanes.
- A trailer that is on ice sliding, and is that badly jackknifed doesn’t recovery in the length of a pickup truck.
- My truck happened to be in 4 wheel drive, and I happened to have purchased brand new tires the weekend before so I had enough traction to move.
After the event I was ecstatic with excitement. This was not from fear but from faith and blessings from the Lord. I know what had happened was supernatural. Granted, I could not see it with my own eyes, but I know it had taken place. I imagine that at the moment I passed the truck there was a huddle of angels knowing something was about to take place that would put my wife and I at risk. The moment that trailer started to slide I can envision the quarter back angle yelling Break! All of them dispatched, most grabbing the trailer and pushing it straight, the others to my truck and my thoughts to get us out of the way.
All said and done, I would have loved to have talked to the driver of that truck. What would he have said? I bet it would have been an amazing testimony. I could not get over the excitement for days of what that entire situation meant. God had so much love. He just showed up with his angels and immediately that situation was rectified, and I’m certain that many would just called it luck, but It’s not luck, it’s not coincidence, it was Devine intervention. Praise the LORD!
