Day 26 – Commercial Maneuvers Kelly Householder NOTAM Ephesians 5:1 -2 (The Message) Watch what God does, and then you do it, like children who learn proper behavior from their parents. Mostly what God does is love you. Keep company with him and learn a life of love. Observe how Christ loved us. His love was not cautious but extravagant. He didn’t love in order to get something from us but to give everything of himself to us. Love like that. Lazy 8’s, 8’s on Pilons, power off 180’s precision landings, steep turns, steep spirals, do these sound familiar to you? If you are a commercial pilot or are in training to become a commercial pilot, there is no doubt you are familiar with the maneuvers and more than likely the effort required for the commercial check ride When training for my commercial license I would go out every morning about 7:30 with my trusty instructor and we would go thru the process of him demonstrating the maneuver and then I would do my best to imitate him; watch what the instructor does, and then do it. He would show me how to perform a lazy 8 walking me thru each critical step along the way. I would then do my best to imitate my instructor however not speaking a word because I so focused just flying the maneuver. Each day we would work on 1 or 2 new maneuvers and go back to others to work out some of the kinks. The goal was simple; watch what the instructor does and the do it. Why could my instructor do this so effortlessly time after time yet I would struggle to make it thru the entire maneuver without a flaw? Answer: He has been doing this for years, over and over again, he has been practicing. If we are to imitate God (Eph 5:1) then we must practice doing what we see God doing, be on your watch to what He brings to you. Just like the insructor you must watch, listen and follow along. I choose to use The Message today because I feel it expands a bit on this scripture and helps us understand it a bit more.
